What Is Spinal Decompression Therapy?

What Is Spinal Decompression Therapy?

If You Suffer From...

  • Chronic severe back and neck pain
  • Herniated or bulging discs
  • Degenerated discs
  • Long-term use of painkillers
  • Anticipated need for surgery
  • Failed back surgery
  • Subluxation (spinal pressure on nerves)
  • Arthritis
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Sciatica / leg pain
  • Ongoing, severe pain that is not responding to traditional spinal treatments by an MD, DO, PT or DC

You Owe It to Yourself to Try Spinal Decompression Therapy

Nonsurgical, drug-free Spinal Decompression is a non-invasive treatment for patients who suffer from neck and back pain problems. A decompression treatment slowly and gently lengthens or releases pressure in the spine through repetitive movements by a customized treatment table. The table pulls and releases, creating a pressure change within the intervertebral disc, surrounding soft tissue, and joints. This pressure change allows the disc bulges or herniations and nutrients to be pulled back into the disc. Rehydration of the disc and surrounding structures creates a physiological change, which assists the body’s natural healing process. Patients typically experience significant improvement within 20 to 25 treatments. Research suggests that continued improvement is seen up to four years following decompression treatment program.

How Spinal Decompression Works

A Formula for Relief

Through the logarithmic stretch and release protocols of the decompression procedure, negative pressure is created in the disc over time. This vacuum effect draws any herniated disc material back into the disc.

When Negative Is Positive

By reversing the effects of axial load or compression in the spine, increased circulation occurs that aids in the healing process.

Clinical Studies on the Effectiveness of Spinal Decompression Therapy

"Eighty-six percent of ruptured intervertebral disc (RID) patients achieved 'good' (50-89% improvement) to 'excellent' (90-100% improvement) results with decompression. Sciatica and back pain were relieved. Of the facet arthrosis patients, 75% obtained 'good' to 'excellent' results with decompression."

"Serial MRI of 20 patients treated with the decompression table shows in our study up to 90% reduction of subligamentous nucleus herniation in 10 of 14. Some rehydration occurs detected by T2 and proton density signal increase. Torn annulus repair is seen in all."

Edward Eyerman, MD. Simple pelvic traction gives inconsistent relief to herniated lumbar disc sufferers. Journal of Neuroimaging. Paper presented to the American Society of Neuroimaging, Orlando, Florida 2-26-98.

"Results showed that 86% of the 219 patients who completed the therapy reported immediate resolution of symptoms, while 84% remained pain-free 90 days post-treatment. Physical examination findings showed improvement in 92% of the 219 patients, and remained intact in 89% of these patients 90 days after treatment."

"All but two of the patients in the study improved at least 30% or more in the first three weeks. Utilizing the outcome measures, this form of decompression reduces symptoms and improves activities of daily living."

"For over a year, I was experiencing constant back and hip pain that was so severe I was unable to stand any longer than five minutes. I tried medications, injections, epidurals and several therapies but they provided no relief. When I was told that back surgery was the only solution, I decided to try Spinal Decompression Therapy. That was the best decision I ever made. After a month or so, my pain level began gradually decreasing and now I feel great and fortunate to have a pain free life again. I began to feel a change after the second week. I have been recommending this very effective treatment to family and friends with back issues who are considering surgery. The staff is impressive - they are friendly and compassionate and play a significant part in this positive experience."

"I came to Dr. Adolph with an L4/5 herniated disc. I was in so much pain that I walked bent over. The pain started at my lower back and ran down the right leg to the foot. It was almost constant. I could not get comfortable, sitting, lying, or standing and had difficulty sleeping. I felt miserable. Now my back feels better than ever. My back moves more freely than it has since I was much younger. I’m able to do whatever I need to. All pain is gone! After about three weeks of decompression treatments and adjustments, I was walking upright with a lot less pain. Then about two months later I was experiencing pain-free days. Eventually, all the pain was gone. I have told everyone I know how much it has helped me. Not only is Dr. Adolph an experienced and talented doctor he is very compassionate, concerned, and caring man. I would recommend him to anyone seeking chiropractic care. The staff at SpinaLife is professional, caring, and seeks to make each appointment as comfortable and pleasant as possible."
